I don't know how much Honda have invested in the development and production of their new flagship road bike. But I'm guessing it's a very great deal.

The new CBR1000RR Fireblade SP2 is, according to the mighty HRC 'a unique assembly of the finest components you'll ever find on a sports bike'. Further, 'it has less weight, more power and advanced electronics that deliver outstanding performance wherever you ride'.

To establish the new model's road racing credentials they recruited the dream team of John McGuinness & Guy Martin.

Unfortunately for Honda their homologation race bike also has something extra. Something they really hadn't planned for - a bad reputation. After a series of incidents in testing and two notable crashes involving both riders at recent road racing events they have a serious PR problem on their hands.

John McGuinness has pretty much kept his own council but Guy Martin, never one to be relied upon to easily follow the corporate line, has summed it all up very simply and dubbed the bike a 'Jonah'

All that research, development & technology damned by a sense of superstition !

I hope Honda can recover from this serious setback as on paper the bike's a winner and in real life the bike looks and sounds bloody gorgeous !
